What is Lenormand?
Lenormand cards are a deck of divination cards named after the French fortuneteller Marie Anne Lenormand. The deck of cards consists of 36 illustrated cards with different symbols and motifs. Lenormand cards have gained great popularity as a means of divination, especially in France, the Netherlands, Central Europe, the Balkans and Russia. They have also spread to Brazil, probably with European and Russian immigrants.
The history of Lenormand cards goes back to the early 19th century, when Marie Anne Lenormand was at her most active as a fortune teller and cartomancy. He claimed to have given prophetic advice to several famous people, including the leaders of the French Revolution (Marat, Robespierre and St-Just), Empress Josephine and Tsar Alexander I. Lenormand was in operation for over 40 years.
After Lenormand's death, his name began to be used on several divination cards. This included a pack of 36 illustrated cards called the Petit Lenormand or simply "Lenormand cards" and are still widely used today. Lenormand cards have no moral judgment, but offer both positive and negative meanings. They are popular in divination and give accurate answers to questions.
Lenormand cards differ from Tarot cards, for example, in that they do not contain the structure of arcana or other Tarot elements. Instead, they are simple symbols with just a few keywords. Lenormand cards are read differently than Tarot cards. Interpreting the Lenormand cards is central to connecting the cards like a chain that forms images and stories. They offer direct, sometimes frank and surprising messages about life situations.
So Lenormand cards have their own unique history and way of divination, which has made them a popular tool in many countries. They are practical, straightforward and provide accurate answers, which makes them attractive to many fortune tellers and divination enthusiasts.
