Finns, like other cultures, have their own old Gods and their mythical past. The ancient faith of Finns leads the reader to the ancient roots of our folk beliefs. The work explores how gods and religion merged into the everyday life and celebrations of people in the past.

First published in 1948, Suomalaiten muinaisusko collects the life work of Finnish religious studies pioneer Uno Harva in one cover. It is a landmark work of Finnish mythological research and belongs on the bookshelf of anyone interested in the roots of Finnishness and the faith of our ancestors. Veikko Anttonen, emeritus professor of religious studies at the University of Turku, has written a new afterword to the work.

Uno Harva (1882-1949) was a pioneer in Finnish religious studies. He made several research trips to people of Finnish origin in Siberia and Eastern Russia and published numerous studies dealing with the religious life of the indigenous peoples, which have become international classics. Few have played a major role in the development of Finnish religious studies and folkloristics.
