Fruit trees and hydrangeas in the gardens of the bourgeoisie
Carrots and peonies in the plots of transplant gardens
Tulips, tiger lilies, lilacs and alpine roses

Daalia ja pelakiu tells about the history of Finnish gardens. How useless did taking care of the gardens, which were considered a luxury of manor life, become the hobby of every yard? How did the allotment gardens loved by the townspeople come about, and what has been grown in them at different times? What were the gardens of Tarvaspää and other national romantic artist villas like?

The impressively illustrated work contains hundreds of garden plants, from asters to thunderbolts.

PhD Teija Alanko is a non-fiction writer, plant archaeologist and plant biologist familiar with the history of useful plants and gardens. His work Malva ja mulperi (2018) described earlier garden history and received the State Prize for Information Publication.
