The Cthulhu mythology is a unique phenomenon in literature, and based on it, numerous films, audiobooks, music, visual arts and games have been born. Numerous generations of horror writers have drawn inspiration from Lovecraft's works and expanded the Cthulhu mythology. The author's influence also extends beyond horror literature, and references to Lovecraft can be seen everywhere from The Simpsons to Metallica. Lovecraft can be considered the father of modern horror literature with good reason.
