A world we have almost forgotten.
The elves are mostly known today as the Christmas elf who lives in Korvatunturi, but Santa's enthusiastic helpers are the youngest newcomers to the elf tradition. The old people's relationship with both house elves and sauna elves was reciprocal - the elf was very useful, but when offended, it could turn into a malicious and dangerous rascal. In the old days, these small owners of the home and yard had to be treated with fearful respect.
Northern gnome belief is ancient, and gnomes may indeed be the oldest Finnish gods - they still influence our lives in many ways.
