Toomainjuoma - hot drink seasoning

This already legendary hot drink has traditionally been enjoyed at the events of the Hämeenlinna Medieval Society. The spice master took and put the spices in a row, in a bag and in a jar. Now this delicacy, which used to be cooked and kneaded by hand, is really easy to make at home.

After tasting this, you'll never want to buy mulled wine again, let alone settle for plain mulled wine.

The thing works as follows -->

Choose the base for your drink, traditionally the legendary Tuomaanjuoma is made with either Pommac or apple juice. Any soft drink or juice works as a base, feel free to find your own favorite. (Don't try this with light or diet etc. drinks, you will be horrified, the hot drink must have sugar...)

A bag is enough for 1-1.5 liters of ready-made drink (1 liter of apple juice or 1.5 lemonade), a can for almost ten liters.

Heat the drink in a pot to the boiling point and add the contents of the bag or 5-6 tablespoons of spice mix/liter. We recommend that the spice mixture be dispensed into tea brewing bags available from well-stocked grocery stores, alternatively you can also strain the finished drink (a bag is easier). You can also try dosing the spice directly into the drink if you're used to sifting sawdust with your teeth ;)

Let the drink brew for at least ten minutes, don't boil it frantically, it's enough that it's hot.

If you want, you can add your favorite Christmas spices. You can add an extra kick, Zing, as our spice master calls the taste experience, with fresh ginger and whole cloves. You can get more "Christmas" with cinnamon sticks and star anise.

Traditionally, dried or fresh apple slices, orange wedges and/or dried mixed fruits are used as decoration.

If you end up steeling your drink, do it at the serving stage so that the good spirits from the steel tea evaporate as steam to the elves.
