A bitter orange or 'bitter orange' is a tree that bears bitter oranges, also known as 'bitter oranges', fruits that are not suitable for eating. They are smaller than sweet oranges and have thick and rough skin and bitter and sour flesh. Formerly called 'mede pomme', there are different Petit grain essential oils (petit grain mandarin, Petit grain lemon, etc.), but Petit grain bigarade is only obtained from the branches and leaves of the bitter orange tree (not the fruit). Distilling its flowers yields orange blossom essence or neroli oil
