What all was involved in the bear worship of the ancient Finns? What kind of birth myths are told about the origin of the wolf, snake and fire?

Martti Haavio's classic work Suomalainen mythologia, published for the first time in 1967, vividly tells about the old gods of the North and the world view of our ancient ancestors. At the same time, there are also interesting connections between Finnish ancient beliefs and fables and legends of other old cultures.

Because of its powerful influence, the work is an important part of the history of Finnish mythological research.

After a long break, the book is re-published and offers fascinating reading moments for anyone interested in ancient faith and religious studies.

Martti Haavio (1899-1973) was a researcher of folk poetry and mythology. Along with his academic career, Haavio published poems under the author name P. Mustapää. Finnish mythology remained his last research.
