Published in 1894, Pagan worship of the Finnish family creates an overview of the folk religion of Finns and other peoples who speak Finnish family languages. It presents extensively preserved information about the ancient sacred places and images of gods, witches and sorcerers of the peoples of Finnish descent, as well as the religious processions led by them.

The work is originally based on a series of lectures given in 1887 by Julius Krohn, professor of Finnish language and literature. The new afterwords of the anniversary edition were written by Veikko Anttonen, professor emeritus of religious studies.
