Corpus Hermeticum - The Emerald Tablet and Other Hermetic Writings - Hermes Trismegistus
The ancient hermetic texts that are now published in Finnish were translated into Greek by Egyptian priests in 300 BC. They labeled "Hermes Trismegistos" which means "three greatest" as the author of the wisdom texts. The importance of Hermetic writings has been recognized both by the church father, the Christian philosopher Klemens of Alexandria in the 100th century and by numerous scholars and philosophers in different centuries after him. The texts paint a picture of the source of the ancient mysteries and contain "all Egyptian philosophy".
The written form of the texts is usually a dialogue in which Hermes Trismegistos or divine beings lead the student to various teachings and to the understanding of secret mysteries.
In addition to the seventeen Corpus Hermeticum treatises, three other Hermetic texts have been translated: " Asklepios or the Complete Sermon " and the " Discourse on the Eighth and Ninth " found in Nag Hammad in 1945 and the famous " Smaragd Tablet ". We hope that this collection will make Hermetic thought familiar to the Finnish-speaking readership and facilitate the understanding of Hermetic and Gnostic philosophy.
