The ankh is a hieroglyph in the ancient Egyptian writing system that means "life" and symbolizes divine or eternal existence. The ancient Egyptians wore amulets in the shape of an ankh, believing them to have special powers. Amulets were also placed in the linen wrappings of mummies to ensure protection and eternal life.
