Absinthe - The drunkard of the damned
"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were.
After the second glass, you see things as they are not.
Finally you see things as they really are,
and it is the most terrible thing in the world.”
- Oscar Wilde
The word 'absinthe' sounds ominous in the listeners' ears. Known as the Green Fairy, this powerful aperitif was banned in many countries at the beginning of the 20th century due to its supposed toxicity, but before that it inspired many artists.
Absinthe – The Hop Lady of the Damned presents a wide selection of contemporary poetry and prose inspired by absinthe, from England and France to Scandinavia and America. In addition to the translations, the book is decorated with imaginative Art Photographs from still lifes to various pastiches.
Absinthe is once again, after the bans lifted, a topical and interesting drink, so it's time for a green moment again!
