Capiz shells are the outer shells of a marine mollusk (Placuna placenta), also known as the windowpane oyster. In the Philippines, these shells are named Capiz after the coast of Panay Island, where they were originally collected. When cleaned, the shells are naturally translucent, and their painted surface creates a beautiful play of light and color.
