The ancient Egyptians attached great religious significance to the combination of lapis lazuli and gold, and to the humble scarab beetle, a symbol of resurrection and eternal life. According to belief, gold and lapis lazuli decorated accessories were considered the wearer's protectors under the sun and sky. Gold was considered a divine metal associated with the ancient Egyptian sun god Re.
