Did you know that the quill has been almost the only writing instrument, for almost a thousand years, from around the 8th century until the 17th century?
Originally, the fountain pen did not have a separate nib, but the ink was taken from the nib. With one dip, you could write a word or two. Then the tip of the quill had to be dipped into the inkwell again. From this you can get an idea of how slow and patient work the monks have done in the past when copying texts, which, fortunately and for our learning, have been preserved until our times.
