Ancient Spell Poems of the Finnish People belongs to the landmark works of Finnish folk poetry. The work published in 1880 was Elias Lönnrot's longest-running editorial work and a major achievement in his field.

The nearly 400-page material contains spells widely used in folk healing, wandering as well as everyday work. The book also contains Lönnrot's extensive foreword about the old Finnish tradition of spells and magic.
