Aaveiden Turku - Ghost stories from Finland's oldest city - Artemis Kelosaari
For centuries there was only one real city in Finland: Turku, Åbo, Aboa. The year of its founding is considered to be 1229. Eight hundred years can accommodate countless human lives. And deaths. Sometimes from another person's knife, from the executioner's ax or from a rope tied around the neck by one's own hands. Many tragic human fates have disappeared into the mists of history. Not everyone rests in peace, but has ended up giving rise to ghost stories.
Turku can be called the city of thousands of ghosts. When you wander its streets, you may come across a piece of dark history around the corner.
The journey of the ghost stories in this collection takes you to the historical landmarks of the city, the Turku Castle, the Cathedral and the Old Grand Square. The ghosts hang out in old valuable buildings, such as the main library, Sirkkala barracks, Åbo Svenska Teater and Priima's house. We visit the hills of Luostarinmäki, Vartiovuori and Kerttulinmäki. We will also make a trip to Brinkhall manor and finally we will give voice to the urban ghosts of Turku's student village.
Welcome to Turku, the city of thousands of ghosts!
